Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: The disappearance of swan signets in MA (Rachel)

Hello,

I have been following a pair of mute swans for many months that live on a nearby pond. Eight eggs, then 7 babies. One died right away and 6 have developed well, are swimming and eating at 6 weeks of age. In the past week they having dwindled to just two with one disappearing every few days.

I suspect they are being eaten by a predator, perhaps coyote, raptor...???

Any thoughts?

Thanks very much
