Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Sterile Swans? (Janice)

Hi, I have what were called "mated pair" 5 years of age in 1999. To date they have failed to produce one egg (2010). For a long time I thought I might have two of the same sex. They live on a spring fed 1 acre pond and are fed regularly a supplement of cracked corn, duck protein pellets and wheat grass seed along with leafy dark greens when available. To us their habitat is optimal. Each year they go through the mating ritual, build a huge nest and they sit on it faithfully....but never an egg... Why don't we have cycnets?

Thank you,
Janice
