Cygnet Attacked by Parents after Rehabilitation at Wildlife Center (Fishing Line)

A couple of weeks ago, we rescued a cygnet that was caught in fishing line. It was tightly wrapped around its leg. Our local wildlife center rehabilitated it, and we released it back to its family yesterday morning, and all was fine. Later in the afternoon, we were informed by neighbors that the parents were attacking the baby. Other neighbors, not knowing of the attacks, found the cygnet and placed it back on the shore. We have not seen it since, but are hoping and praying it is in hiding and someone will find it. Why did the parents attack it? It was perfectly healthy! Thank you.
