Hi Elizabeth

What color is the swan's beak? If it is black, the swan could be a protected Trumpeter or Tundra Swan. If it is orange in color, then it is a Mute Swan and may have gotten away from its owner. Can the swan fly? If it is so friendly that it will come up to you, we would suggest you capture it (as long as you can do so safely or get someone from a wildlife/waterfowl rescue facility to help). We would strongly suggest to capture the swan and turn it over to a rescue group that can find it a good safe home. South Carolina has predators such alligators bobcats foxes panthers that can access a golf course and kill the bird. Good luck and let us know if you cannot find a home for it. The Regal Swan
