In Response To: Re: Is floating fish food good for swans? (The Regal Swan)

Hi Donna

No, fish food is not an adequate food source for the swans. Swans are not dabbling birds as much as they are grazers and divers. Therefore, the food should be submerged in the water. Use a 50% mixture of cracked corn and 50% poultry layer pellets. The cracked corn acts a filler as well as providing critical Vitamin A. Without this nutrient, swans can be affected neurologically. The poultry layer pellets provide necessary vitamins, minerals and micronutrients with the correct amount of protein. Too much protein in the diet can cause wing problems in which the wing grows faster than the soft connective supportive structures causing the wings to grow backwards.

Mix the food and throw the food into the water forming a long trough with the food. This will allow many swans to feed at one time. The Regal Swan
