In Response To: Female swan making nest (Susan)

Thank you for your reply. I just checked on our swan and she laid a large egg!
Now I'm very concerned that raccoons will try to get the egg (or eggs, if she lays more) & our swan could be hurt or killed protecting her nest. That happened to a visiting duck who laid eggs on our property many years ago (she was killed, presumably by raccoons,sitting on her eggs).
I have no enclosure or other means of keeping her safe outside. Any advice?
How many eggs do swans usually lay ( & over what period of time)?
How long will a swan sit on unfertilized egg(s)?
