Cygnet-less female swan behaving like an aggressive male swan
By:The Observer
Date: 27 June 2007

I came 'round the bend and there was a swan in the middle of the road, neck rigid, wings 'way up, then getting up and stomping towards me.

Precious.

No! NOT Precious - Marlika!!

There's role reversal going on here! She marched toward me with determined step, head lowered, all fluffed up....a white warrior princess....

...until she got closer, and realized..."oh, this is one of my humans!" Wings down, little bleats and head lowered.

One of the parks vehicles came along the road, and she hurried to the centre of the walkway, to challenge it - just the way Precious would.
Worried as I saw it come closer, I urged her off to the side towards the wetlands - she very reluctantly went but came right back out again as soon as he passed by.

I think she just might still be in 'cygnet-mode' and is behaving the way she would if she had a little one to watch over.
