You just never know what you're going to find in a culvert! I was photographing the ruined soil and dead cedar in the former woodland, when I turned around, and there was a little visitor, checking me out!

This is one of the very shy little Douglas's Squirrels. They hardly ever come out of the trees when people are around, but this one's smart and will come right up - in fact, yesterday, for the first time, he climbed my leg!!! (All 150 grams of him!)

Poor old molting Precious!! His left wing is much shorter than the right one, and his tail has only about 3 feathers left - it won't turn upward any more. But he doesn't seem to notice - he still sails proudly by, trying to look regal.

The "teen-aged" goslings with Mom and Dad. Aren't they the funniest (but cute) little critters?! They come right up to be stroked.

Mama Swan and Raccoon - he's a young animal, and was prowling on his own along the water's edge when suddenly, a loud HISS could be heard, and there was Mama Swan, ready to give chase. It's just amazing how she appears out of nowhere, each time a raccoon shows up. He left pretty quickly afterward.

Not that clear, but you can see enough to make out the surprising "balancing act" that Bijan's pulled off. He stood on a very narrow piece of wood floating in the lagoon in another of his quiet spots - I have NEVER seen a swan perform that kind of tightrope-walk, and he went right to the end. (Note: This picture looks surreal, but it was not altered in any way)
