Swans Through the Seasons

Sub Title:Cygnet Nutrition and Swan Speech!

Each morning, on rounding the bend in the lagoon road, I wonder if our little family of 3 swans will be sitting there, displaying shades of bright green feathers that will blend perfectly with the lush grass they graze for hours, at bionic speed! Fresh grass and greens are very important as a cygnet’s first nutrition to give him a good start in life, so Precious and Marlika know what they’re doing to encourage baby’s feast, and of course it doesn’t hurt that it’s a spring gourmet treat for Mom and Dad too. The tender grass around Lost Lagoon is not sprayed or treated with chemicals, and therefore safe to eat.

Parental Pride

Proud old Precious has been the best mate and now is proving a devoted dad swan as well. He takes turns with mom to nudge Baby toward the tastiest grass, and waits patiently as the cygnet nibbles. This time, it's mom who's fluffed up - she's just come back from chasing the ducklings away from her little one.

Dining With Dad

When they’ve finally eaten their fill, or they think their fans on the road are too lively, it’s time to head for their little refuge in the wetlands. Mom begins to signal her cygnet with a little series of calls that sound like very soft trumpet notes. Baby immediately responds by getting up and following her across the road, back to safety. Precious usually joins them, sometimes stopping long enough to unfurl his wings in great, snorting triumph, “I am still the GREATEST" as he makes his dramatic exit.
