Swans Through the Seasons

Domestic Squabble For Swans?
Sub Title:Isolde Lays Down the Law

Our Isolde has become such a pretty swan – with spirit! She clearly enjoys greeting her friends and sharing a bit of conversation now and then, keeping up her part nicely with a variety of quiet bleats, head-lifting and intervals of standing very still, listening.

The other morning we were enjoying just such a visit; she was “in the middle of a sentence…” when her companion Tristan headed over to add his opinion – planning to take her spot, front-and-centre.

Isolde stayed right where she was, and he couldn’t have that– so he marched confidently forward, reaching over with open bill to take a generous tuft of her neck feathers and twist. She was NOT amused – in fact, she was outraged, and turning her back to him, raised her little wings, flapping them furiously, accompanied by a surprisingly loud “SNORT” for a girl-swan. It wasn’t hard to figure the gist of her message, and Tristan, put in his place, went off to seek calmer waters!
