In Response To: Widowed mother swan left with son: Will she have him as her mate? (Jo)

The pair of swans on our river here ( river Exe Devon) have been there for years. This year the male disappeared, we presume dead as he had been fighting dogs to protect the cygnets. The young swans have now departed, but one has stayed on with the widowed mother - presumably a son. Will she now have him as her mate? Will this work ?
