Hi Bob:
Currently, all birds including the Trumpeter Swans are on migratory paths, either on migratory wintering stop-overs or going back to their nesting areas. Due to ever present inclement weather patterns at this time of year, no bird is going to travel great distances at night or any other time in the event that they become trapped and cannot get back to their roosting areas on ponds and lakes. Therefore, they scout for food starting at dawn, either aquatic vegetation or agriculture grasslands that can help supplement their vegetative needs which are scarce during the winter months. Then, at dusk, they return back to the ponds or lakes for the night so that they can stay in or near the water to escape possible predation. The Regal Swan
