Place some bread in warm water. The warm water will melt the ice. Just don't get it too hot or the swans won't drink, make it lukewarm.

On another note, please note that Michigan DNR is committed to killing all Mute Swans in Michigan by 2030. If they find out there are Mute Swans in your area they will kill them under the false pretense that they are invasive, non native, and detrimental to the habitat. This misrepresentation is being fed to the politicians, media and taxpayers so that the larger Trumpeter Swans can be introduced for Trophy Waterfowl hunting. You, your neighbors and fellow taxpayers need to fight this killing which has been going on since the 90's. More than 26,000 Mute Swans have been killed at a cost of more than $150,000 a year, staff and salaries not included and is a non sustainable program based upon no research according to Michigan DNR officials at the International Swan Symposium held in Easton MD in February 2014.

Please contact your elected officials and media, start an online petition to stop the killing. Should they need info regarding statements made by the Michigan DNR officials, please have them contact us. The Regal Swan
