In Response To: Missing Male Mute (Ronnie)

I've been watching a cob and his mate now since last spring in a local pond. During the winter when the pond freezes over, understandably they both do disappear to a more favorable and survivable spot. Now in mid-March, I've noted several times the cob is nowhere to be seen while the pen remains. I'm trying to solve the mystery of where he may be and worry too that there may be something amiss. Last spring they had a splendid clutch of 10 cygnets (5 of which survived). One of those 5 was a polish mute and he was rejected and lived alone nearby for months. In fact, there had been recent sightings of the orphaned cygnet as early as several weeks ago. Do you have any clue as to where the male may be and if such separation from his mate is normal?
