We live on Portage Inlet and have been grain feeding a resident swan family for many years. Over the years the makeup of the family has changed due to age / accident etc but a single pair maintain and defend their territory. My question is during most of the year, not during nesting season, where do they prefer to spend the dark hours? Do they stay in the water or seek a secluded area on land.
