Cob absent from the nest for a few days

Hello, the nesting pair on our local pond, that have breed successfully before, have laid a clutch and the Penn has been sitting for several days, however the Cob has been absent for a few days and there is no trauma site around. Is this common behaviour as they often visit our nearby lakes etc.
