Hi Karen

There may be something wrong with the cygnet and the parents have kept him from the rest of the flock so if he has an illness/disease it does not spread to the rest of the family or that he attracts a predator to the family. Is he eating? Do the parents still check on him?

If the answer is no to both or either of these questions, you need to see if there is a wildlife/waterfowl sanctuary that might help him. Having said this, Virginia and many states are killing the Mute Swans and making it illegal to help them, so you need to ensure that you do not alert state officials to your area where they may kill your swan family.

The reason that state and federal wildlife officials are killing the Mute Swans is to open their habitat so that they can introduce the larger Trumpeter Swans forTrophy Waterfowl hunting purposes. Troohy Waterfowl hunting permits are more expensive and they will be used to bring in much needed money for deplinishing wildlife budgets. The Regal Swan
