Hi Elisita
Both male and female swans may bite, but mainly flap their massive wings to strike at a predator or protect their young. Female swans tend to hiss as a warning more than the males. The Coscoroba Swans from South America not only can bite and strike with their wings, but will also use the nails on their toes to rake against a predator or other threat. The Regal Swan
