How was the male killed and why were the eggs addled? If you live in a state in which Mute Swans are demonized falsely, we already know the answer to these two questions.

State and federal wildlife officials have misrepresented Mute Swans as being detrimental to the environment so that the taxpayer will fall in line with the killing. However, this information spewed across the country by wildlife officials could not be further from the truth. Mute Swans are not an invasive species, rather a Sentinel species that alert to problems in the habitat such as the presence of heavy metals and harmful microorganisms.

The reason that the swans are killed and eggs addled is that these same wildlife officials (at taxpayer cost) are killing off the Mute Swans in order to open their habitats so that the larger Trumpeter Swans can be introduced and used for Trophy Waterfowl hunting purposes. These Trophy Waterfowl hunting permits will bring in much needed revenue and at a greater price to help increase and maintain wildlife budgets (i.e. staff salaries).

The female will leave the nest eventually, but she is still in danger, as wildlife officials will usually return in the middle of the night to finish the job.
