Hi Sheila
The male will swim with its wings back and produce a wake as he swims. This behavior is called busking and basically means the bird is in a very defensive mode protecting its family and territory. The faster he swims and the farther back the wings, the more upset the bird is feeling. This behavior usually occurs when the testosterone levels are high due to mating and nesting. The Regal Swan
