Hi Ally:

The parent swans will move the cygnets away from the nest to prevent predators from finding them. The parents may also know that there is better protection in the new pond, less predators (human and animal), as well as more shade and food resources. Additionally, it may also be a way to allow the cygnets to learn about their immediate habitat and how to find food and shelter from pond to pond. The Regal Swan
