Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Lost swan? Lost cygnets? (Loren)

Hello!

Today I noticed a very large swan on the small beach that I live next to in Connecticut. This is the first time I have seen a swan In this area. All day long he has been walking up and down the beach just looking around. He will swim into the water just a few feet and then come back to the shore and continue walking around. He is pecking at rocks and sand as if he is hungry. A woman I ran into told me she saw cygnets at the same beach yesterday but did not see a swan. The swan does not appear to be afraid of people as he comes very very close to me. I am a bit worried about the swan. If it is still here tomorrow behaving this way should I do anything? I don't want it to go hungry. Not sure if it's looking for its young. I'm not even sure if it's a male or female? Doesn't appear to be injured. Should I intervene at all? Thank you so much!
