Hi Ronnie
The male may still be in the immediate area, scouting and protecting the surrounding area prior to the upcoming breeding season. The male swan should return to the habitat within the next several days if he is still in the area and paired with last year's mate. If he does not return, it could mean that something hapoened to him or he found another mate. Swans are usually monogomous (having one mate during their life), but just like humans, this can be an individual attribute and swans can and will pair with another mate. There have also been cases where a male swan kept two females with nests and eggs resulting from the two alliances. The Regal Swan
