Hi Elizabeth:

Are you sure that the female was the one killed? Normally, male swans, depending on individual swans and species, will not incubate the eggs. So, if this is the male swan, it will be highly unusual that he will sit until the eggs hatch. He is at risk from an attack should the predator returns which is probable. If the predator returns and the swan can escape, it is highly unlikely that he will go back to the nest. The Regal Swan
