Since Australian Black Swans are a Southern Hemisphere species, they are not equipped for cold temperatures, especially extreme freezing windy conditions. You will need to provide an indoor pen for winter months with a clean water feature (small indoor pond), with a non-slick non-abrasive zero entrance, surrounded by straw (and mucked daily) with a feeder. The water feature needs to be approximately 2 feet deep and 6 feet wide for one swan (double if two Australian Black Swans or bigger if another species).

The indoor pen must be completely enclosed top to bottom so that no predator can dig under or climb into the pen.
