In Response To: Re: Mute Swan: How long without food and the coldest temperatures they can survive (The Regal Swan)

Hi Matthew

Mute Swans are Northern Hemisphere Swans which means that they do very well in cold conditions. Swans need food throughout the day regardless of temperature. Therefore, they migrate to warmer areas during inclement winter months. If swans do not migrate, then they usually know where to find food resources during the winter. As long as swans are in an area in which not all of the water freezes, i.e., large pond or lake or the freeze thaws within a couple of days, then the swans will still have ample water and food to get through the winter.
