Hi Sue:
Normally, this time of the year is mating season. However, with all of the late cold weather we have been incurring, the birds may have been interrupted in their mating and nesting behavior. If the swans began to nest, but the eggs were not viable or the swans stopped nesting, then they will separate because there are no cygnets or eggs to guard or maintain. Should the weather improve and the swans' hormone levels are still high, the pair may once again come together for mating and nesting activity. Regardless, the pair will eventually rejoin each other to feed, bathe and preen. The Regal Swan
