In Response To: Re: Nesting female died leaving male swan alone with eggs (Elizabeth)

Thank you for your response! I am positive it was the female who was attacked. The male swan was just introduced to the female less than a month ago. The female had been without a mate for a few years due to the last mate she had getting attacked (this has happened to a couple of her mates) so my company purchased another male. I'm pretty sure the wings have been clipped so I don't think he'll leave our pond. The nest had been fenced off but clearly, not good enough but it has been since this happened. We're also in the process of building a floating dock to avoid this happening again but we are aware of not being able to move the existing nest to the dock. I am so incredibly worried and sad that this happened. I almost wish she hadn't laid eggs because I'm sure this is very stressful for the male. He sits on the nest almost all of the time. Do you have any advice for this situation? Thank you in advance for any help you can give!
