Hi Ari

There are a couple of reasons, and let's hope it is the first one.

1. The swans made it back to your area, but came back early and your pond was still not resourceful enough to stay, nest and eat. Therefore, the one swan is visiting you while the other swan is nearby in another area nesting.

2. With this brutal winter, some of the swans and other birds may not have made it due to cold, disease or starvation.

3. Finally, let's hope this is not the case, but your Wildlife commission is trying to kill as many Mute Swans in your state so that there will be no more. Unfortunately, your politicians and DNR will not listen to reason and are killing all the Mute Swans so they can bring back the larger Trumpeter Swans for Trophy Waterfowl hunting purposes. This is how they make their money, killing various species so they can maintain their staff, salaries and budgets.

Again, we hope that the second and third reasons are not why your swans have not returned. They also may just be late. Please let us know if they return. The Regal Swan
