Hi Sarah:

Thanks for the photo and the kind words. Swans, some geese and ducks carry their young on their back. This allows the young birds to rest, sleep, stay with the mother, kept warm and dry and safe from predators. Once the cygnets get a little older, this behavior ceases. So, Enjoy! The Regal Swan
