In Response To: Female swan missing after sitting on nest for a week (Beth)
Hi Beth
This is certainly not normal behavior. It sounds as if she was scared by something, possibly a predator. Can she fly? If she is pinioned, unable to fly, she may have fled, but may have been captured in an area you cannot access. If she can fly, she may be too scared to return or possibly lost. We are sorry for this news, but if she does not return within the next couple of days, it does not look promising.
Is there another pond in the area? Neighbor yards or other such areas that she might be hiding? If there are neighbors or a neighborhood with pond nearby, have you checked with anyone? Please let us know how this situation progresses. The Regal Swan
