SWAN FAMILY CANT ACCESS NEST
By:Paul
Date: 11 June 2014

Hi
The day before yesterday the swan family was washed down the weir and now can't access their nest. The 5 cygnets are a week old and they lost one last night. My concern is that there is nowhere for them to get out of the water. I have noticed in previous years that the cygnets need massive amounts of sleep, on land, between feeding trips. Obviously an option is to let nature take its course but if we were determined to lend a helping hand would we achieve anything by providing a route for the swans to get on dry land at their new location or would we have to get them back near their nest? That would probably mean getting expert help (which is available) to net the signets and lead the adults back to the nest . Many thanks Paul
