Two swans flew off, leaving a third one alone

We recently had 2 swans new to our pond. . They stayed two weeks, left for 2 days and returned with another swan. All 3 stayed for 2 weeks and then 2 flew off 3 days ago leaving one alone. I have googled and asked but have no answer. It makes me sad. Thanks for any information you can give me.
