In Response To: Re: Swans in garage during cold season: Swimming required? (The Regal Swan)

Hi Jen:

Thanks for your kind words. No, the swans do not need a swimming feature. We have kept swans in hurricanes for four weeks at a time, with no water feature and no problems. You will need to continue misting the swans with warm water on a daily basis. As the time for release back onto the pond nears, you will need to continually thoroughly soak the birds for 2-3 days prior to their release. You need to ensure that they can preen themselves dry so that they will regain their water repellency and not drown once released. As long as you are thoroughly misting them at this time, the necessary soaking should only augment what you are presently doing. Just ensure that the swans are wet enough to make them preen dry themselves. The Regal Swan
