We had a swan family and then the one parent went missing. The cygnet was under a month old, still very small.

We have a small pond in our community and then a wooded area and then Below that is another housing community with a larger pond.

The other day I saw the parent walking around about 10 yards from the pond with the cygnet and now they are both gone. I walked to the other pond and no sign. I can't imagine the little one making the trek. Is this normal behavior to abandon a water hole when the cygnet is still so small?
