In Response To: Re: Will a deceased swan float? (The Regal Swan)

Hi Kara

Swans and other waterfowl can float or sink after death depending upon the injury. Birds have air sacs in their lungs which can facilitate floating after death. However, drowning--causing the ingestion of water can disrupt the air sacs and cause the bird to sink as well as an injury such as punctures to the body or being dragged underwater by a predator.
