Swans hiding while incubating

There are 12 or more swans in St. Albans lake Hertfordshire. Now (May) I'm only seeing 3 to 4. One adult and two young. Until recently there where at lest 6 young. My question. Are they in hiding during the incubation period? I ask as they are normally present all year round.
