I live opposite a pond in Scotland. Years ago two swans would always come here and then a good few years ago the male returned alone. Every year he returns alone and I watch him sit there alone and it breaks my heart. Do they get lonely? He is always friendly when I walk round. Occasionally two other swans appear and chase him away. This hasn't happened yet this year. It's just too sad. Every time I look out my window I feel sad.
