More than likely, your pond serves as a stopover along the Migratory path. Stopovers allow birds to rest, eat and revive their energy levels before proceeding to winter habitats or returning to their spring nesting habitats.

Even though you do not see other swans, there probably are other ponds and swans within your immediate or surrounding area and this swan is meeting up with them without alerting them to his private stopover, especially if it is a very young male with no mate or an older male that has lost its mate.
