Hi Linnae

If after 40 days of sitting on eggs, the eggs were either unviable or infertile and the parents dumped the eggs into the water. The parents will kick the eggs into the water so that predators will not be attracted to the area. You can leave the nest for another week or so and then dispose of the nesting material. We would suggest using straw as a nesting material because it remains drier than hay which helps with control of mold. The Regal Swan
