After doing a bit more research & thinking about some things & really taking a hard look at the current yard, I'm actually thinking he is looking for better grass/vegetation. I gave them some lettuce, carrots, apples & a bit of fresh green grass that I pulled from a pasture & they ate it all up but they typically do not seem interested in that type of food. They seem to only like the pellet food & we did try putting up a feeder at one point (previously owners used a feeder) but they ate so much, it was ridiculous & they don't seem to be eating the algae in the pond.
