Swan family suddenly ups and leaves pond

The other day I was riding my bike and looked out over one of these Sound inlets and saw dead fish. They appeared to be Bunkers. That is not too unusual because bluefish chase bunkers, sometimes pushing them into the brackish waters where for lack of oxygen they die. But I am pretty sure these waters are not brackish. I got off my bike and walked down to the shore and discovered lots of dead fish. I am talking hundreds and hundreds of dead fish. Dead fish everywhere. Out beyond the water I could see the sun reflecting off the silver of perhaps hundreds more dead fish.

I called the health department and they had no clue but seemed to shrug it off. "Sometimes bunkers get lost and die in inlets. It happens." When I explained how many I saw, she seemed a bit alarmed and told me to contact the state environmental authorities. I did. But they told me they didn't know about it, perhaps I should contact the marine department. I got a voicemail, then had to go, but I will call again this Monday.

This may be a coincidence, but my pond swan family suddenly disappeared about the same time. The swans are territorial and have cygnets, so leaving the pond, particularly when the cygnets still cannot fly, seems unusual. I spotted them, yesterday, way out on the border of Stamford, another town pretty far away. They were huddled by a bridge, far away from the beaches. They had traveled a long way. No, this was NOT another swan family, this was our pond family. Same cygnets-looked four months old--and the male swam to me when I called. (*they know me and remember me). Why would they take off down the coast to another town? I searched internet and cannot find any answers to this.

Yesterday there were still some dead fish but the tide took most of the carrion away.

I looked around my pond and other connecting ponds near my pond and not only are the swans gone but all the geese and ducks have left. I see not one duck.??????

Never ever seen this before
