Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Intoduction of yearling (Tom)

We had at one time four three year old Mute Swans on our lake of 4 acres. They had paired then one bird was killed, since then we have had one bird swimming by himself.

The pair has gone into courtship and making a nest but no eggs twice now so I believe they are all males.

I have found a loan female yearling that I want to introduce. I have since sent off dna to be checked of the original 3 birds, but once again I believe them to be males so soon we will know.

I plan on using a dog run half in the water to house female to meet and greet for a month or so.

Is there any other steps I should take? or thoughts?
